Visconti's Opera Elements collection draws inspiration from the ancient concept of four elements. Before the advent of modern science, certain civilizations (like the ancient Greeks) believed that all matter was some combination of earth, wind, fire, and water. Visconti has created four colors to represent each of 'elements': yellow for air, red for fire, blue for water and gray for earth. Each pen, no matter the color, is crafted from marbled resin.
Visconti also has a tradition of crafting pens for use at prestigious events. Given its design inspiration, the Opera Element was chosen as the official pen of two UNESCO world events: a conference on Water Resources Management in Capri (an island off the southern coast of Italy) and a meeting in Barcelona of the World Conservation Congress.
