Named for Wolverine's founder, G.A. Krause, the Krause boot is made from Horween Dublin Leather that is tanned in a process similar to that used to make shell cordovan leather. The process results in great depth of color, which is highlighted in the Krause by contrast stitching along the archival pattern line and cap toe. The full lace-up boot has a butyl-treated leather outsole, Vibram heel lift, and a classic leather storm-welt with traditional Goodyear Welt construction. The Krause is made in America and is now available in Russet and Black in men?s sizes
A Tradition of Success
In 1883, G.A. Krause founded the Hirth- Krause Company in Rockford,
Michigan, after his family emigrated from Prussia in the early
1800s. Krause was a third generation leather tanner and boot maker
and prided himself in creating finely tanned leathers which in turn
created comfortable and durable footwear. The Hirth-Krause Company
soon became the industry leader known today as Wolverine Worldwide.
Krause’s best selling model was the Wolverine 1000 Mile Shoe,
which was originally crafted from a special tanning process using
shell horsehide. The 1000 Mile Shoe was so durable and comfortable
it was said to give you 1000 miles of wear. The Wolverine brand was
one of the first nationally advertised footwear brands in the U.S.,
telling farmers the benefits of Wolverine shell horsehide and the
1000 Mile Shoe.
The Original
The first of its kind, the original 1000 Mile Boot was crafted in
the 1920s using shell horsehide to create the most durable yet
comfortable work boot on the market at the time. Wolverine employed
its own “secret tanning method” to create a boot that
was “soft as buckskin, but wears like iron.” Its
timeless design became a signature product for Wolverine and men of
the 20th century.
A Classic Revisited
Crafted with great attention to detail, and using the same
construction methods as the Original, the Wolverine 1000 Mile
Collection is made in America and is destined to become another
classic. Inspired by original designs from the 1920s, the boots are
as comfortable as they are beautiful. The 1000 Mile Collection
combines the pillars of Wolverine’s heritage – comfort,
durability, function and style.
Wolverine's boots have been featured in Esquire, GQ, US Weekly, and on A Continuous Lean. You can also check out a series of videos on the firm by clicking here.
