The modern gentleman is a jet-setter. Whether for business or pleasure, he often finds himself in distant lands away from the establishments of sophistication that are his refuge while at home. Here, we have assembled a list of the best steak houses, martini bars, barbershops, wine and cigar stores, golf courses, and more. Each venue -- timeless, authentic, and independent -- is worth a visit, if not your patronage.
Best Steak House: Charlie Palmer Steak
Charlie Palmer's was named the "Best Steakhouse in Las Vegas" by the Las Vegas Review Journal just a few months after opening, which is not easy in a city that boasts a Smith & Wollensky's, Morton's, Palm (Caesar's), Gallagher's (New York-New York), Prime (Bellagio), and AJ's (Hard Rock). Located in the Four Seasons Hotel, (the town?s only five-diamond hotel), it has a very clubby atmosphere that feels comfortable, spacious and understated.

Best Public Golf Course: Reflection Bay
Reflection Bay Golf Club is the first public resort golf course in Nevada personally designed by Jack Nicklaus, and it makes its way through the desert while providing breathtaking views of Lake Las Vegas. In fact, it has five holes that come into play on those shores. The facility was nominated by "GOLF Magazine" as one of the "Top 10 Best New Courses You Can Play" for 1999.

Best Private Golf Course: Shadow Creek
Perhaps you've heard tales of this legendary place sculpted from the Nevada desert by renowned architect Tom Fazio. Descriptions, however grand, do not begin to do this masterpiece justice. Shadow Creek must be experienced. While not a private club, it is only available to the highest rollers staying at one of the MGM Resorts. Should you get the opportunity, be prepared to shell out $500 for a round.
